Dada dolls

This series is loosely inspired by Brittany Murphy’s Baroness look in the pilgrimage issue of the New York Times Magazine, “Fashion of the Times” issue, Fall 2002. Originally photographed by Jeff Riedel and titled “My Heart Belongs to Dada,” this project pays homage to the Dada movement while exploring the kitschiness of modern aestheticism.

The Dada movement, known for its avant-garde and often absurdist art, challenged traditional notions of art and culture. In "Dada Dolls," I strive to capture the irreverent and eclectic spirit of Dada, juxtaposing it with contemporary visual elements. The eccentricity and playfulness of Dada are mirrored in the choice of thrifted, second-hand clothing and styling. In addition, the backdrops for each image are AI-generated, adding another layer of modernity and abstraction to the work. My goal was to further emphasize the collision of past and present, human creativity, and machine learning. It allows for an exploration of the unexpected and the uncanny, much like the original Dada artists sought to do.

Through this series, I aim to evoke a sense of nostalgia and curiosity, encouraging viewers to reconsider the boundaries of art and fashion. "Dada Dolls" is a pilgrimage through time, style, and technology.
